Problems with Multiculturalism in India

Problems with Multiculturalism in India Human by nature, we all tend to adapt to change. Whenever exposed to a new surroundings, the experiences always remain with us. For example, when a person goes to visit another country/state, he/she experiences certain traditions and lifestyles in his surroundings and also it becomes a strong memory for him/her. Eventually, when he/she comes back to the daily routine, he/she tends to introduce those traditions in his lifestyle and also encourages others to do it. This kind of attitude gives rise to multiculturalism. We all know that India is a country with various diversifications and has made people immersed into multiculturalism. It has a vast perspective towards multiculturalism and people of all the caste, creed, sex, beliefs, opinions, ideologies, mind-set and backgrounds come together and form what today is seen. When different people from various cultures untie, gather and share their own cultures and traditions among themselve...

Impact of GST

Goods and Service Tax Photo Courtesy : Google Photos Goods and Service Tax aka GST is considered as the biggest post-independence tax/economic reform in India which would not only affect businesses but also to the common man. GST expresses the principle of “One Nation, One Market, One Tax” country. Also, it has converted India into a unified market of 1.3 billion citizens and 2.4 trillion USD market in to a common market of the nation. The main concept behind the implementation of GST is to offer a ‘Win-Win’ situation for everyone i.e. manufactures and traders will have to deal with fewer tax fillings, consumers would be paying less for the goods and services and the government will generate more revenues as leaks would be plugged because of GST. It also creates transparent rules in front of the nation, for the nation at once. But is this the reality? Is this really happening? Are people or to be more precise, layman, happy with this change just after the recent...

Demonetization

A Surprise for Citizens November 8, 2016 was a great surprise for the citizens of India. A great surprise because PM Narendra Modi, announced something, something which was done last time in 1978 - “DEMONETIZATION”. PM Modi announced that the currencies in denominations of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 will be invalid post-midnight. It was something that the people never expected and was a shock for all as it was a confidential move according to the government which was to be announced and implemented suddenly as to curb black money. This was not for the first time that India experienced demonetization. First time when it was implemented was before independence i.e. in the year 1946 when currency notes of Rs. 1000 and Rs. 10,000 were removed from circulation. Though it was the first demonetization, it didn’t affect that much because at that time, such high level of denomination was not found much amongst common people. Later, in 1978, the then PM Morarji Desai announced the demonetiza...

Kashmir Issue

A Sensation in Today's Era Photo Courtesy : Google Photos Kashmir issue is going on since 1947. After the independence of the two countries, princely states had a choice between choosing a country or remaining independent. Kashmir was stuck between India and Pakistan border because of its location. The then ruler, Hari Singh then decided to stay neutral but Pakistani troops didn’t allow that neutrality for long. Seeing the Pakistanis at the gate, Hari Singh appealed for a help from India and signed a treaty known as ‘Instrument of Accession’ which leaded Kashmir to accept India. Indian and Pakistani forces fought for the first time in 1947-48 over Kashmir. The dispute was later taken to United Nations on January 1, 1948. Later, a resolution was passed where Pakistan was asked to remove their troops from the Kashmir following to which Indian troops were to fall back. But, even after the resolution the war continued which led to a ceasefire on January 1, 1948 leaving 65...

Freedom of Media

Media is the fourth pillar of democracy as we know it. Media is meant to be a bridge between common people. In simple words, media is the most important medium through which people can express their opinions and views and through which people gain information and get aware about the recent happenings in locality as well as around the world. On the other side, freedom can simply be defined as the state of not being imprisoned or enslaved or to stay in a state where one is unconstrained. Now, can media be considered as free? Is media, on a global scale, free to perform its duties and responsibilities without any pressure? Does someone control what goes through media and reaches to common people? Is media constrained to some specific organization or is bought openly? In practical world, it is to be noted that the freedom of media is an important aspect in the society. If there is anyone who can raise voice against wrongs, corruption and malpractices in the society, then it is media...
